Guest Policies

What is the guest policy for golf?

The Member must inform their guests of the Ocean Forest Rules and Regulations and is responsible for the conduct of the guest.

Members may host up to three guests for golf on any day and at any time the course is open for general play. The Rule of 7 policy allows for a member to host up to 7 guests at the “accompanied” guest greens fee rate when the course is open for general play and is subject to special restrictions on time and caddie requirements. Guests are restricted during holiday weeks to house guests, Immediate Family Members and Extended Family Members only. When hosting guests, members shall arrive at the Club in advance of or with their guests and depart the Club with or after their guests have departed.  If a member is not able to arrive at the Club in advance of their guests, a call of courtesy to the Golf Shop is expected.  Members should make appropriate guest hosting arrangements with the Golf Shop prior to finalizing details with their guests. Once on property, Members are expected to sign their guests into the new “guest ledger” in the Golf Shop and inform the Golf Shop staff of any deviations from the group’s original plans. All charges incurred by accompanied guests, except for Golf Shop merchandise, will be billed to the hosting Member’s account.  Subject to advanced notification to the Golf Shop and approval of the Member, a Sea Island Club account or credit card may be used to settle charges incurred by an accompanied guest.  Members may sponsor unaccompanied guests by making arrangements directly with the Golf Staff. The Club limits unaccompanied guest groups to two per day and allows their access of the locker rooms only for preparing for their round or cleaning up after their round.  Breakfast/Lunch is available for unaccompanied guests in the clubhouse casual dining areas and Tee House only. All golf, food, and beverage charges for unaccompanied guests will be billed to the sponsoring Member’s account. What is the attire policy throughout the Club?

The Club has the following dress code policy with the expectation that Members and Guests will choose to dress in a fashion that preserves the tradition and setting of Ocean Forest Golf Club.

The Clubhouse

Smart Casual Attire Venues: Club Room, Living Room, Living Room Bar, Locker Rooms, Parlor, Pavilion, and Tee House. Smart Casual attire is defined as well-tailored, not excessively loose or tight, golf club casual wear. Members are encouraged to consider respect for tradition, modesty, and the comfort level of fellow Members when making smart casual attire decisions.

Gentlemen: Golfing attire is permissible in smart casual attire venues. Jackets are required after 6 p.m. from November 1 through April 1 in the Living Room, Living Room Bar, and Pavilion. The golf attire designation includes a collared or golf-designed shirt tucked in with hats removed inside the Club and in the Pavilion. Bermuda and walking shorts are permitted. Notwithstanding the exception above, Jackets and slacks are always welcome in smart casual attire venues. Considered NOT appropriate in these venues: blue jeans-denim, t-shirts, exercise shorts, cargo shorts, cargo pants, sweatpants, open-toe shoes, and all beach attire.

Ladies: Golfing attire is permissible in smart casual attire venues. The golf attire designation includes collared, or golf-designed shirts, hats, golf skirts, golf skorts, Bermuda shorts, and walking shorts. Members are reminded to use the utmost discretion regarding tailored denim, not blue jeans, which is free of rips, frays, and tears. Dresses and slacks are always welcome. Considered NOT appropriate in these venues: blue denim, t-shirts, exercise pants or leggings (unless worn under golf skirts, skorts, or walking shorts), exercise shorts, joggers, cargo shorts, cargo pants, sweatpants, tank or crop tops, and all beach attire (includes crochet, knit or see through coverups).

Formal Golf Club Attire Venues: Formal Dining Room year-round and the Living Room, Living Room Bar, and Pavilion after 6 p.m. from November 1 through April 1.

Gentlemen: Jackets, tailored slacks, collared shirts, and dress shoes. Considered NOT appropriate in these venues: denim, shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, golf shoes, athletic wear, open-toe shoes, and beach attire.

Ladies: Classic and tailored attire, with dress shoes, sandals, or boots. Considered NOT appropriate in these venues: denim, shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, golf shoes, athletic wear, and beach attire.

Golf Course

Gentlemen: Collared or golf-designed shirts tucked in, well-kept hoodies with a collared shirt worn underneath, Bermuda and walking shorts, hats worn with the bill facing forward and removed when entering all buildings. Considered NOT appropriate: Denim, t-shirts, cargo shorts/pants, exercise shorts, joggers, sweatpants, and all beach attire.

Ladies: Collared or golf-designed shirts, well-kept hoodies with a collared shirt worn underneath, hats are permitted throughout the Club, golf skirts/skorts, Bermuda and walking shorts. Considered NOT appropriate: blue denim, t-shirts, sports or exercise pants or shorts, leggings (unless worn under skirts, skorts, or walking shorts), sports or exercise tank or crop tops, cargo shorts/pants, joggers, sweatpants, and all beach attire.

What are the rules regarding the Practice Areas?

Practice is not allowed on the Golf Course. The practice facilities should be used for all practice. The use of practice balls outside the designated areas, including the Golf Course, is prohibited and constitutes theft of Club property. The General Manager is authorized to suspend any Member and to terminate privileges of any Guest found using practice balls anywhere other than in the designated areas. Balls must be hit from designated locations. No hitting is permitted from the rough or sides of the practice range, except for rough areas surrounding the north-end practice green. Chipping at the south practice green is discouraged and chipping is prohibited from a distance of 10 feet or more from the putting surface. Are dogs allowed on property?

What is the cell phone policy?

At all times while on Club property, cell phones must be set to vibrate or silent mode. All uses of cell phones are prohibited in the Living Room, Living Room Bar, and Formal Dining Room. Elsewhere on Club Property, including the golf course and practice areas, the use of a cell phone for conversation or voicemail retrieval must be conducted in private and out of eyesight and earshot of any other person. If one cannot find a place to conduct a conversation that is out of eyesight and earshot of others, he/she is expected to inquire with the Club staff, and they will designate an area for your conversation. The use of a cell phone for silent features such as text messages, email correspondence, web browsing, etc. is permitted (except in the Living Room, Living Room Bar, and Formal Dining Room as noted above).
